  • Abraham Lincoln on Criticism

"If I were to try to read, much less answer, all the attacks made on me, this shop might as well be closed for any other business. I do the very best I know how - the very best I can; and I mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings me out all right, what's said against me won't amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, ten angels swearing I was right would make no difference."

"Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realize that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events." ~Winston Churchill

"Our blessed Lord reveals himself to his people more in the valleys, in the shades, in the deeps, than he does anywhere else. He has a way and an art of showing himself to his children at midnight, making the darkness light by his presence."

It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbled, or whether the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; Whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs and comes up short again and again; Who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, and spends himself in a worthy cause; Who, at best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement; And who at worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly. It is far better to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight of life, knowing neither victory nor defeat. ~ Theodore Roosevelt

  • The Reformed Pastor – Richard Baxter

“We must carry on our work with patience. We must bear with many abuses and injuries from those to whom we seek to do good. When we have studied for them, and prayed for them, and exhorted them, and beseeched them with all earnestness and condescension, and given them what we are able, and tended them as if they had been our children, we must look that many of them will requite us with scorn and hatred and contempt, and account us their enemies, because we ‘tell them the truth.’ Now, we must endure all this patiently, and we must unweariedly hold on in doing good, ‘in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves, if God, peradventure, will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth.’ We have to deal with distracted men who will fly in the face of their physician, but we must not, therefore, neglect their cure. He is unworthy to be a physician, who will be driven away from a frenetic patient by foul words. Yet, alas, when sinners reproach and slander us for our love, and are more ready to spit in our faces, than to thank us for our advice, what heart-risings will there be, and how will the remnants of old Adam (pride and passion) struggle against the meekness and patience of the new man! And how sadly do many ministers come off under such trials!”

Pastors Falsely Arrested

This was a prayer request posted by a friend on facebook:

Please pray for my older sister Vee and her husband Aaron Rodgerson. Aaron was just arrested a few hours ago. My brother-in-law is the pastor of a small church in Kirksville, MO. A few weeks ago social workers came in and took custody of a 10 month old baby Alethia whose dad is the assistant pastor. They were accused of child abuse because their daughter weighed only 12 pounds. She was otherwise completely healthy. She was taken away from her parents and put into a hospital where all kinds of tests were done to see what was wrong with her. All the tests showed that she was a normal baby who just happened to be small. They would not accept that and so were forcibly tube feeding Alethia to make her gain weight. She actually LOST weight while in the hospital–the poor baby was only allowed to be with her parents for 1 hour a day and ONLY if a social worker was present. They were giving her so much that she stopped eating completely.

They finally got her back up to the weight that she was before being admitted to the hospital and released her to foster care. Her parents would not plead guilty to child abuse so they are going to trial (next week I believe). She is still in foster care but is only allowed to be with her parents for 8 hours a day. These are good godly people who have done NOTHING wrong. Aaron was in a meeting of Reformers Anonymous at their church tonight when the police came in and arrested Nate and Elizabeth Burns(Alethia’s parents) and Aaron.

I believe Aaron is being charged with practicing law without a license and failure to report injury to a child. Both are completely bogus charges because a pastor is supposed to counsel his flock and Alethia was never harmed, so naturally there was nothing that Aaron should have reported. Aaron has ruffled a lot of feathers in the town of Kirksville because he has taken a stand against the gay/lesbian comunity and I think they are just looking for ways to get him out of the way. Please PLEASE pray that God will be in this situation. My poor sister called my mom when she was on her way to try and bail her husband out of jail. They have a precious 3 year old son Daniel and are concerned that social services is going to try and find a reason to take him away. They have been persecuted a lot for their faith (threatening emails, angry letters…..) America was founded on Christian principles but we are no longer a Christian nation.

Isaiah 5:20 says “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” That verse swirled in my head all night long because of events that took place around 8:30pm. My husband along with Nate and Elisabeth Burns were arrested. My husband had two charges: failure of mandated reporter to report child abuse/neglect or death of child under 18 and practicing law without a license–both misdemeanors; and we were able to meet his bond at $1,000. Nate and Beth have been charged with a felony–endangering the life of a child under 18; their bonds were set at $25,000 each. They are both in the county jail until we can meet bond or get their bonds reduced or even changed to RO bond (wouldn’t have to pay anything for release). All we know are the charges but no details on any “proof” the police had in order to generate a warrant. Pray for us. The trial regarding the original incident is this Monday at 1pm; these new circumstances will be addressed at a later date but obviously are affecting our lives at the moment.

**** “Aaron’s charge of practicing law without a license is because he told the Burns that their constitutional rights were violated when Alethia was taken away. (Police literally barged into their home and took the baby without a warrant or anything.) So apparently now you have to be a lawyer to talk about our Constitution…”

  1. Amen Sister! The city of Kirksville has their “facts” a bit mixed up. To start with the child was one week over 9 mos. at the time of the incident ( I perfer kidnaping) and the child was more than just 12 lbs. The state can not even get the TRUE facts straight, much less agree with the multiple medical reports.
God has His hand in this and His Truth will be revealed. Lies from the enemy are easier to believe than truth. The Lord God Almighty is great and is greatly to be praised. His Truth will be known and many will see His hand in power in this situation & all will see the love and power of the God who created them.
Nathaniel, Elisabeth & Aaron will be greatly rewarded by their Maker for boldly proclaiming the Truth and faithfully serving Him.

  2. I was wondering if you had another update. I am an Assistant Pastor in Indiana and our church has been praying for them. My wife and I knew Nate and Elizabeth from Fairhaven where we graduated from College. We are getting very conflicting stories and would like an accurate update on the situation. Thanks so much and God bless!

  3. I should say that momofmany.wordpress.com has lots of interesting information. Looks like the author did a good job. I will be coming back to momofmany.wordpress.com for new information. Thank you.

  4. I was wondering if I could get another update. We have been praying, especially for the court dates at the first of August but haven’t heard what happened. Please let me know if you can. Thanks!
